Ballinfoile Park - the most litter covered housing estate visited

Though I saw litter in every housing estate that I visited, Ballinfoile Park was by far and away the worst.
Beds and other large household items were thrown on the public greens and were not removed for weeks on end!

I personally know many of the residents of Ballinfoile Park who have worked hard for years to improve their area. None more so than the highly committed resident association chairperson, Michael McDonnell.
Thanks to the efforts of Michael and others, Galway City Council are putting together ambitious plans to redevelop the estate. Over the last few years, the local authority installed a series of top-of-the-range outdoor Child Play & Teenage facilities.
But these recreational facilities are covered with a layer of cigarettes, cloths and cans that would deter any parent from letting their children use it.

I cannot understand this type of anti-social behaviour and why it is tolerated by parents of the culprits, the local residents and finally the Council, who are after all the landlords of the estate.

Yes Mr. Hynes, the article was written a few years and, as the photographs show, it was a true reflection of the estate as it was then.
I took part in a number of clean-ups with local residents of the estate at the time.
And you allude too, the situation has improved a lot since.
I still walk through the estate and was there as late as last week.

So would you like me to do another up to to date article? I think that would be wise and fair. If so, I have no problem!
